Jay started on Vanua. He, along with Taylor Stocker and Figgy Figueroa formed the Triforce alliance, and Jay recruited Michelle Schubert to the alliance on Day 1. When Vanua lost immunity on Day 7, Figgy became the target. After Zeke Smith told Jay that Figgy was the target, Jay alerted Michelle. Michelle told Jay that they should target Mari Takahashi for being a strategic an social threat. Jay told Figgy, and both of them managed to get Michaela Bradshaw on their side. At Tribal Council, Jay, his allies, Michaela, Will Wahl, and Hannah Shapiro voted for Mari, thus blindsiding her. Will then became a part of Jay's alliance.
Jay, along with Will, Michaela, and Hannah were switched to the new Ikabula tribe after the Tribal Switch, and were joined by fellow Takali's Bret LaBelle, and Sunday Burquest. On Ikabula, Jay and Will found the Hidden Immunity Idol together, but were caught by Michaela. However, she promised not to rat them out. Jay held onto the idol. When Ikabula finally lost immunity on Day 20, Michaela suggested to Jay, Will, and Hannah that they split their votes between Bret and Sunday, and vote out Bret in the revote. However, Jay talked to Will about blindsiding Michaela because of her intelligence, athleticism, and the fact she knows about the idol. At Tribal Council, Jay, Will, Bret, and Sunday blindsided Michaela. Michaela angrily asked Jay if he voted for her, and he said yes, and she angrily glared at him for about a few seconds before departing. Despite being angry with Jay, she did not reveal his idol.
When the Merge occurred, Jay reunited with his remaining allies minus Figgy who was blindsided before Michaela. After Taylor informed Jay that former Vanua member Adam Klein was targeting Will, Jay decided to target Adam. Will won the first Immunity Challenge. At Tribal Council, Jay and his alliance voted for Adam, but the rest blindsided Michelle. After Tribal Council, the minority alliance of Jay, Taylor, and Will tried to recruit more allies. Jay did not win the next Reward Challenge. At camp, Jay tried talking to Adam, but Adam taunted Jay about Jay being in the minority alliance. After Jay told Adam's allies about his comments, they considered betraying him. The next day, Sunday and Bret discussed targeting Jessica Lewis. Sunday recruited Jay, who promised support from his alliance members Taylor and Will. Ken McNickle won immunity. At camp, Sunday realized that her plan to target Jessica was infeasible at that point, and warned Jay. Taylor then told Jay about his stolen food stash and Adam's Reward Steal Advantage. Jay encouraged Taylor to tell their tribemates about Adam's advantage in order to spark distrust. During Tribal Council, Jay and Taylor tried to turn everyone on Adam. However, Jay ended up voting for Taylor. He decided not to play his idol. While he received four votes, Taylor was voted out with seven votes.
The next day, Will told Zeke about Jay's idol, and the word soon spread to everyone else. While it appeared that Jay was the odd man out, he was not a target as the Takali Alliance targeted Jessica while David's Vinaka Alliance targeted Takali alliance member Chris Hammons. David won immunity. At camp, both alliances did not tell Jay their plans in order to trick him to play his idol, and Jay even contemplated on playing the idol. However, Jay decided not to play his idol and he voted for Jessica, but Chris was blindsided. On Day 30, Jay easily beat the others to win his first individual Immunity Challenge. He then became a member of Zeke's Vinaka Alliance. He along with his alliance voted for Hannah, but the vote ended in a 5-5 tie between Zeke and Hannah. Jay voted for Hannah in the revote, but it ended in a 4-4 tie. Jay did not participate in the rock drawing Tiebreaker, due to the fact that he was immune. Jessica picked the unlucky rock and was eliminated, thus putting Jay's new alliance in the majority.
The next day, Jay met his sister Melanie. He won the Loved Ones Challenge. He chose to share the reward with Will, Sunday, and Adam. On the reward, Adam gave his advantage to Jay to show gratitude. After finding out that Will wanted to flip, Jay tried to get Will to stay. At Tribal Council, Jay and his alliance minus Will voted for Hannah, Will flipped, Adam played his idol on Hannah, so Zeke was blindsided.
Jay managed to win his second Immunity Challenge. Back at camp, Jay and Will tried rallying people against David. Both himself and Will voted for David but Will was blindsided. With the last of his allies gone, Jay tried aligning with Adam; they discussed targeting David, but Adam was still hoping to eliminate Jay. Ken won immunity. Jay targeted David and told Adam he wanted to go to the end with him, but Adam refused and told him to play his idol. Adam confided him about his mother's cancer battle which made both of them cry, and Jay reveal that his mom is sick. At Tribal Council, Jay voted for David and played his Hidden Immunity Idol, but only received one vote, while Adam and Hannah stayed loyal to David and Ken and sent Sunday to the jury.
Returning from Tribal Council, Jay was angry he wasted his idol. The next day, Jay found a Hidden Immunity Idol, but was unaware it was really a fake which David planted, and then he became arrogant. At the Immunity Challenge, Jay was initially leading, but he did not check his numbers so this allowed David to win immunity and reward. Jay then used the Reward Steal advantage to steal David's reward, but chose to share it with David and Adam. On reward, Jay campaigned against Bret for his connections on the jury, and told both David and Adam he would go to the Final Three with them. Jay played the idol at Tribal Council, but Jeff then said it was fake. At first Jay was shocked, but then smiled and congratulated the others. Ken then played the Legacy Advantage which negated Jay's vote against him, and Jay was blindsided in a 5-0 vote.
At the Final Tribal Council, he asked Adam why he didn't trust him to take him to the end. He contributed to Adam's unanimous 10-0-0 victory by voting for him to win.
